Atasha Faye T. Maggay, a graduate of University of Santo Tomas - Senior High School, Class of 2025, received several awards from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration - Houston Association for Space and Science Education (NASA-HASSE) Space School Program for winning different challenges in the said event.
Maggay secured four awards, including first place in the Martian Habitat Challenge, Robotics, and Cryogenic Challenge; second place in the Lunar Habitat Challenge at the University of Houston, Rocketry, and Endothermic Challenge; third place in the Coding Challenge; and a silver medal at the NASA Space Center University.
Maggay placed an overall rank of second with her team, the White Team.
The said event, at which the Grade 12 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) student Maggay bagged awards, was held at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, USA, and was conducted from May 17 to 28, 2025, a two-week immersive summer program.
NASA-HASSE provides hands-on learning experiences and direct access to NASA facilities and experts; it centers around STEM education, giving students an opportunity to learn about the ins and outs of space exploration.
Maggay, along with other student delegates from the Philippines, had direct mentorship from NASA experts and astronauts like Col. William McArthur.
This achievement serves as a beacon of light that shines through the darkest nights in space.
