At least 171 cases of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) among migrant workers were recorded by the Department of Health (DOH) from April to June this year, with most infections coming from sexual contact.
Since 1984, a total of 10,990 HIV cases among migrant workers have been recorded, with 10,763 linked through sexual transmission, 20 through needle sharing, nine via exposure to blood, and three due to needle stick injury.
189 cases remain with an unknown mode of transmission, DOH added.
4,979 newly diagnosed HIV cases were documented in the second quarter of 2025, nationwide—where 4,705 were males, while 274 were females.
Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Central Luzon, Central Visayas, Soccsksargen, Western Visayas, and Davao recorded the highest number of infections, comprising about 74 percent of the total cases nationwide, DOH revealed.
