The Philippines ranked 66th out of 110 countries at the prestigious 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia, receiving three recognitions within July 10-July 20.
Jerome Austin Te of Jubilee Christian Academy won a silver medal, following his win at the 65th IMO in the United Kingdom and 64th IMO in Japan, continuing his streak as a third consecutive silver medalist at IMO.
Moreover, Ervin Joshua Bautista of Southville International School and Colleges snatched a bronze medal in this year's IMO, after winning an honorable mention last year at the 65th IMO.
First-time IMO contestant Mark Justin Villafuerte of De La Salle Integrated School–Manila also received an honorable mention in this year's IMO.
The IMO is the largest and most prestigious of all the international olympiads, having grown from seven countries to over a hundred each year.
“The competition represents the culmination of many years of mathematical endeavor and hundreds of attempts at solving problems,” said Mike Clapper, CEO at AMT.
The Australian Maths Trust (AMT) hosted this year's edition.
