A devastating incident occurred in Barangay Managa, Bansalan, Davao del Sur where a nine year-old student was swept away by floodwaters on Friday afternoon, August 23.
The victim was playing along a canal when the water suddenly surged, catching the child off guard.
Despite efforts to rescue, the student’s body was found 200 meters away from the school, according to the Bansalan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO).
Based on a police investigation, a 12 year-old student who witnessed the incident attempted to help the victim, but was also swept away by the floodwaters.
Fortunately, the 12 year-old and another nine year-old student, who were playing with the victim are currently receiving medical treatment.
The Bansalan MDRRMO confirmed the incident and authorities continued to investigate the tragic event.
