A minor phreatic eruption occured at the crater of the Taal Volcano between 3:01 to 3:15, on Thursday, according to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The three eruptive events lasted for four to six minutes based on visual, seismic, and infrasound recordings.
These events were then preceded by a strong tremor and produced a plume that reached up to 2,400 meters high and drifted southeast.
Phreatic eruptions are sudden, usually short eruption, triggered by the contact of groundwater with hot rocks underneath the volcano.
Phreatomagmatic eruptions are caused by the interaction of magma and water.
Entry to the Taal Volcano Island is still prohibited.
The volcano is still under Alert Level 1.
