To enhance cooperation in education, air services, and the prevention of transnational crime, the Philippines and Cambodia settled a bilateral agreement on Monday, September 8, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Announced by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, the agreement involved cooperation between the Philippine and Cambodian police to combat increasing cases of human trafficking, cybercrime, and illicit drug trading through enhanced law enforcement and security efforts.
The two leaders also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for higher education, facilitating joint training sessions in science, technology, and innovation and providing opportunities for the exchange of executives in higher education organizations from both countries.
The agreement allows select Philippine and Cambodian airlines to form code-sharing partnerships and operate charter flights, aiming to improve air services between the two countries.
President Marcos Jr. is currently on a three-day state visit to Cambodia following the invitation of the Prime Minister.
The Department of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Angelica Escalona stated that Cambodia anticipates increased imports of Philippine food, beverages, and medical supplies, as well as the expansion of Philippine franchises within the country.
