MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services and Administration (PAGASA) said Monday that the low pressure area (LPA) was spotted on Sunday, August 24, has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression.
PAGASA weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said the LPA, located east of Maasin City, Southern Leyte, together with the southwest monsoon (habagat), will still bring rains to some parts of the country.
The Bicol Region, Quezon, Caraga, Visayas, and Northern Mindanao will experience “cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the LPA,” according to PAGASA.
“Flash floods or landslides due to moderate to occasionally heavy rain are possible in these areas,” Villamil said.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon will continue to affect the Zamboanga Peninsula, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan, bringing similar weather conditions, PAGASA added.
Metro Manila and other regions in the country may experience partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.
