The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) ran surprise drug tests among 80 personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and 150 detainees yesterday, August 1, at the Baguio City Jail.
Baguio City Jail (BCJ) warden, Jail Chief Inspector John Wayland Lapon, said the drug tests are conducted quarterly for jail officers as a mandate and randomly for detainees or persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).
NBI-Cordillera led the mandatory and random drug testing to promote a drug-free workplace and ensure that no illegal drugs are being smuggled into the detention facility.
NBI chemist Ruel Huerno said the test kits used can detect traces of marijuana and methamphetamine hydrochloride in urine samples.
Huerno also said no one at BCJ has tested positive since the initiative began in 2022.
