After the combo of three tropical cyclones and the southwest monsoon (habagat), the Department of Health (DOH) expects a boom in leptospirosis cases.
Leptospirosis is an infection that is transmitted to humans via water tainted by the urine of infected animals, which are more likely to get from floods that many step in during the forces of ‘Crising’, ‘Dante’, ‘Emong’, and the southwest monsoon.
569 cases of leptospirosis have been reported by hospitals nationwide from July 12 to 31, according to DOH.
“In connection with the continuous rains caused by the tropical cyclones and the southwest monsoon last week, the DOH is on alert for the expected rise in leptospirosis cases in the country,” the department said in Filipino.
