The sunset came early for the Filipina pair.

Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons saw their stellar stint at the 2025 Beach Pro Tour Futures Qidong relinquished after succumbing to Stefánia Flóra Kun and Lilla Villám of Hungary via a 2-0 (13-21, 17-21) sweep during their quarterfinal clash in Qidong, China, on Saturday, June 21.

After a nip-and-tuck affair early on, the Hungarian duo suddenly stole the spotlight midway through the first and sustained the gap through well-placed spikes to take a seat at the semifinals, where they will clash with Australia’s Caitlin Bettenay and Cassandra Dodd.

Previously, the “SiPons” tandem took commanding wins in pool play over Japan’s Kana and Nayu Motomura, 21-17, 21-10, and China’s MeiMei Lin and Hong Xie, 21-14, 21-17.

Those sweeping victories gave the Alas Pilipinas pair the top seed of Pool D and a slot for the quarterfinal round of the tournament.

But nobody knew it was going to be the last time the pair would taste sweet success in the BPT.

Kun and Villám did not give any breathing room for Rondina and Pons, as they stormed ahead with fast plays after a tight opening.

From then on, they never looked back and took the following set in a much more contested way, after the Filipinas tried to mount a comeback but failed to do so due to fatigue.

Earlier in the day, fellow Filipinas Dij Rodriguez and Sunny Villapando faltered against China’s Lvwen Yuan and Lingdi Zhu in the Round of 12 with a 20-22, 18-21 loss.

Meanwhile, in the men’s division, it was the same story, as the pair of Ronniel Rosales and Rancel Varga also saw their run close after a 19-21, 16-21 defeat to Australia’s Justin Schumann and Garang Anyang.
