We’ve all heard that phrase our whole lives. We grew up with it, and we embodied it. However, as I grow older, the quote no longer reflects a life of peace and serenity. It reflects ignorance of reality.
The phrase, although it sets a radiant message, is far from bliss. The phrase “Ignorance is bliss” just means that the less you learn, the fewer worries you’ll have. The less you know, the less problems. However, being ignorant of reality has been causing problems in our country, especially among the youth. And the more ignorant we are, the less blissful we actually are.
Ignorance will never be bliss because being ignorant is just like forcing a blindfold on yourself when you know you’re walking a thin, tightrope.
You think you’re safe because you’re leaving everything to “fate” and “destiny,” when in reality, you just don’t want to be aware of what’s happening. You’ll never go places if you never know what’s happening along the way.
Choosing to be ignorant is not human instinct—it’s a choice. It’s not like an unconscious baby crawling to wherever. It’s like a grown-up pretending to be one.
It’s not innocence, it’s forcing ignorance.
You know the consequences of your actions, yet act ignorant—thinking that avoiding the problem will solve itself. But no. Worries don’t just disappear when you put them on the side—they grow if left unresolved.
When we ignore the root, we ultimately trip over it because of our ignorance.
But being ignorant is not limited to personal development. It also captures the heart and mind of our country—the citizens and the government.
When we become ignorant, our country will never go far.
When we choose to be ignorant, we are ignoring the opportunities for growth and development. We are choosing to be silent rather than to be loud and true. We are choosing to hide the truth rather than raise it high like a banner. We are choosing to be ignorant rather than to stay relevant.
When we ignore, we fail to see areas for improvement or things that require action. We see nothing. When we ignore, we overlook problems that need solutions.
Yet, there are times when we choose to blame who is really ignorant. Even I questioned it. Is it the people standing above or the people working below?
Ignorance occurs in many instances. Ignoring the qualified candidates, ignoring good causes, ignoring what’s best for our country. But most of these stem from one root: the people.
We say the government is ignorant of the people’s desires, but are the people moving? We say our leaders are staying silent on issues that matter, but are the people shouting?
Real ignorance stems not from above, but from below.
Ignorance happens when we tend to rest everything on our leaders. Yes, they are people who can make change. But if the people ignore their role, they leave room for silence. And that’s where ignorance will never be bliss.
When we ignore our obligations, we point fingers.
However, the people aren’t the only ones ignoring calls of justice and freedom. Leaders exist to give bliss. And if they become ignorant of certain problems and causes, they won’t go too far. Ignorance brings you nowhere; it becomes a burden when we ignore what’s right.
When we become ignorant, everything changes. Not for bliss, but for misery.
We should reaffirm ourselves that ignorance has never, and will never, be bliss. Choosing to be silent, choosing to refrain from learning, choosing to be ignorant will never solve anything and will never give us bliss.
It’s time to break the tradition. Learning and knowing less doesn’t equate to fewer problems. It equals less awareness, fewer actions, and forced blindness.
Now is not the time to act ignorant. Now, we should be aware. Aware of the existing problems, aware of the areas that lack improvement, aware of reality. Because when our eyes are open, we see what needs to be done.
Ignorance will never be bliss. It can only be achieved when we become insightful and use that knowledge to have the bliss we deserve. Because at the end of the day, ignoring reality is a plague that will haunt you forever.
Bliss will never exist if we stay ignorant.
