The nation leaders of Thailand and Cambodia will meet in Malaysia for peace talks on Monday, after assessing the deadly border dispute.
Bangkok announced that acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet will meet for a peace agreement under the supervision of Malaysian leader Anwar Ibrahim, who chairs the ASEAN regional block of which both countries are members.
“They (government representatives of Cambodia and Thailand) have asked me to try and negotiate a peace settlement,” Anwar said.
Anwar added that the expected talks were to focus on an immediate ceasefire between the two nations.
“I’m discussing the parameters, the conditions, but what is important is [an] immediate ceasefire,” the Malaysian Premier said.
US President Donald Trump said he will look forward to concluding the US trading agreements with both countries after the dispute ends.
