The Philippines’ unemployment rate increased to 5.3% in July 2025 from 3.7% last June, as stated by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) on September 10.
This translates to 2.59 million Filipinos being out of work, compared with 1.95 million the previous month.
“This was higher than the number of unemployed individuals in July last year at 2.38 million and in April 2025 at 2.06 million,” the PSA said in its report.
Moreover, PSA data showed that the country’s labor force participation rate (LFPR) decreased in July to 60.7% from 65.7% last month.
Underemployment, or those employed but are in need of more income, rose to 14.8% from 11.4% last June.
Consequently, the employment rate decreased from 96.3% last June to 94.7% in July. The PSA said that this puts the number of Filipinos employed at 46.05 million.
