MANILA, Philippines —Vice President Sara Duterte will visit Japan in September to meet Filipino communities, her office confirmed on August 31.
The Vice President disclosed the plan while in The Hague, Netherlands, where she was travelling with her family, including former President Rodrigo Duterte.
She said that overseas outreach remains a key part of her public service, citing the importance of hearing the concerns of Filipinos abroad.
The upcoming trip will be her third visit to Japan this year, making it one of her most frequent destinations in 2025.
Previous visits included cultural programs and dialogues with Filipino groups in Tokyo and nearby areas.
This year alone, Duterte has traveled to Australia, Kuwait, Qatar, Malaysia, and France, meeting overseas Filipino workers and families while also exploring opportunities to deepen relations with host nations.
Her office noted that such initiatives align with the government’s commitment to support over 10 million Filipinos overseas, whose remittances remain a pillar of the Philippine economy.
Diplomatic observers note that the Vice President’s frequent international visits may not only serve the Filipino diaspora but also enhance her profile abroad, contributing to people-to-people diplomacy and fostering goodwill with strategic partners.
The detailed itinerary of her Japan trip has yet to be announced, but her office said her focus will remain on engaging the Filipinos’ welfare and strengthening overseas ties.
