The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Wednesday that around 50,000 officers nationwide will be deployed to maintain order during the anti-corruption protests scheduled for September 21.
Acting PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the deployment is intended to ensure public safety and security throughout the demonstrations.
“While we respect the right of every Filipino to peacefully express their views, our foremost duty is to protect lives and property,” he stated.
According to police, nearly 10,000 officers will be stationed in fixed visibility posts, more than 17,000 will conduct mobile patrols, about 3,000 will handle traffic management, and over 9,000 will man checkpoints and border control points.
Around 6,000 personnel will be assigned to crowd management, while 4,500 will be on standby as part of a reactionary support force.
In addition, more than 400 drone operators will provide aerial monitoring.
PNP Public Information Office chief Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño urged cooperation from protest organizers, saying coordination will help keep the demonstrations safe and orderly.
The rallies, organized to call attention to alleged corruption in government projects, are expected at several key locations in Metro Manila, including Rizal Park, Mendiola, Liwasang Bonifacio, and near government offices.
Authorities said no credible threats have been detected so far, but monitoring continues as preparations intensify.
